For this project I wanted to give the Historic Haymarket in Lincoln, NE a new look. This new look was also part of a grander scheme for a navigational app that could be developed in the future. Read more below about the branding and to find out how the app works!
The Historic Haymarket.
The Historic Haymarket in downtown Lincoln, NE is an area I've wanted to rebrand for some time. I researched and picked 10 places to be featured to help better introduce an application project idea that I also created. (More info below) I personally went to each 10 places to get better photography and experience what it’s like to find new places without much planned beforehand. I created a little blog about these places to gain interest in the community and share information that can’t always be found so easily. I tried to focus on areas that were diverse and not very well known to the common public. This would also be a feature of my hypothetical app to come. Depending on one’s location, there will be rotating featured local places for people to seek out. Users will then be given the option to provide feedback. The New Look.
The historic haymarket is a fun, upbeat area in Lincoln. Its branding needed to feel the same way. Meet the new face of the Historic Haymarket.
The New Logo.
The historic haymarket district still has a green clock tower that stands over by the rails. This was incorporated into a logo recreated for them. The circle represents the community coming together as a whole in the haymarket district.
The App.
Reconnect is a hypothetical company I created dedicated to making our everyday lives less mundane. Most of us have a daily routine and it has become so ingrained in us that we don’t realize we are going from the same point a to point b every week. We hang out at the same places each weekend, and the art of simply creating one’s own journey has become a thing of the past.
We type in a location into Google, and we get there the fastest we possibly can. Being efficient about our travels is great, but what if we had better landmarks to take us off the same old path? What if our apps were designed to help us find hidden gems we would never know about before? What if we could see customized information based on our different personalities? These are all things integrated into the new app. The purpose of Reconnect is to literally reconnect people back to their community. Designing a completely new experience for the world.

We all
navigate differently.
Studies have shown that each of us wayfind using different methods. Some of us use landmarks to help guide us, some like to use mapping systems. The same color or image may elicit a hundred different responses from the public. Why should we be confined to the same system with the same look? We no longer have to. Reconnect’s goal is to create a unique landmark system that correlates with their app, which can be customized to each person’s personal taste and needs.
New experiences
improve our health.
Most of us all get into a weekly routine. We wake up the same way, work at the same place and go to the same places. Sometimes we just need a little bit of encouragement to think or literally go outside of the box we’ve put ourselves in. Different studies on taking vacations and trying new things can greatly affect our health and well being. We create new memories and are connected with new people we might not have been able to meet without trying something new. With Reconnect’s technology, we keep track of the things you like and the experiences you found most memorable. This is then used to give you customized route options and alternative places to pick from instead of the original route you might end up on the daily.
It's better
for business.
By connecting individuals with new places, we can gain more flow through small businesses or those that may be struggling to get their name out there. Advertising business will become easier and more effective. By using this app as a space to be featured or simply by sharing reviews and feedback, traffic can be directed to more places than ever before! What’s not to love about a win win situation?
